Recommended Order of Draw

1. Tubes for sterile samples.
2. Tubes for coagulation studies.
3. Serum-separating gel and clot activator tubes.
4. Tubes with other additives (e.g., heparin, EDTA, glucose).

Venipuncture Instructions

1. Position the patient’s arm downward and clean the venipuncture site with alcohol.
2. Apply a tourniquet.
3. Assemble the needle in the holder and perform venipuncture.
4. Push the tube onto the needle, puncturing the stopper diaphragm.
5. Release the tourniquet once blood appears and remove the tube when filled.
6. Invert the filled tube as per additive-specific requirements.
7. Insert succeeding tubes following the recommended order of draw.
8. Remove the last tube and needle, applying pressure to the puncture site until bleeding stops.
9. Dispose of needles in compliance with safety guidelines.
